Description:
Glittering Near-Gem 1902 Proof Ten Dollar
1902 PR 64 PCGS. A rare date as a proof with only 113 pieces struck 97 years ago. Of that number Akers estimates that perhaps 30 or so still exist, high grade examples being especially elusive. This is a very attractive high-end piece that shows none of the field to device contrast as was the "norm" on earlier (and some later) issues. The deeply mirrored fields display only a few scattered hairlines which do not detract from this coin's appeal. Population: 17 in PR 64, 4 finer (4/99). (NGC ID# 28G9, PCGS# 8842)
