1906 $10 PR64 Cameo NGC. CAC....
1906 Ten Dollar Liberty, PR64 Cameo1906 $10 PR64 Cameo NGC. CAC. In David Akers' 1980 ground-breaking work on the ten dollar series he estimated there were 25 to 30 proof 1906 tens extant. This was six years before PCGS began certifying coins and population data first became available. His estimate was based on the auction appearances he knew about plus the coins he encountered at various coin shows over the years. Today we believe the number known to be slightly higher but not by much. Probably around 35 proofs are known in all grades. Cameo examples are notably scarce with only five pieces certified in PR64 and 10 finer; there is only one Ultra that has been graded (12/12). The devices are noticeably frosted and contrasted against the depth of mirroring in the fields. The obverse displays rich orange-gold color, while the reverse is several shades lighter with more of a tendency toward yellow-gold. A few wispy hairlines can be seen when closely examined, but there are no obvious contact marks. The strike details exhibit pinpoint definition on each side.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 28GD, PCGS# 88846)
