Description:
Magnificent 1906 PR 66 Liberty Ten Dollar, Ex: Trompeter
1906 $10 PR 66 PCGS. Ex: Trompeter. A virtually unimprovable proof ten dollar from an original production of just 77 pieces, roughly half of which survive today. This is a particularly impressive specimen that was atypically made with an appreciable degree of contrast between the fields and the devices, probably being one of the first coins struck from the fresh pair of proof dies. Normally, the no-contrast method of proofing was used from the turn of the century through 1907. The surfaces deliver a shimmering, mirrored finish and are tinged in a delicate reddish patina. The coin exudes near perfection as is signified by the grade, and the only notable identifier is a small, coppery alloy stain on the reverse between the EN of TEN. Population: 2 in 66, none finer (6/00). (NGC ID# 28GD, PCGS# 8846)
