Description:
Gem Proof 1905 Liberty Half Eagle
1905 $5 PR65 NGC. In the world of proof Liberty gold, where 108 pieces is a comparatively large mintage, the 1905 half eagle does not manage to distinguish itself that way. A Gem example, on the other hand, is a completely different kettle of fish, since the small mintages of the issues and the effects of time have combined for a tiny available supply of high-grade examples. On this deeply reflective lemon-gold specimen, even the most intricate details are bold. The reverse has a degree of cameo contrast, though the comparative brilliance of the obverse precludes such a designation. Only trivial flaws, none of them distracting, affect the mirrors and the devices. A stunning piece that would be a wonderful addition to a 20th century proof type set. Census: 3 in 65, 0 finer (2/07).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 28DB, PCGS# 8500)
