Very Rare Proof Quarter Eagle, PR65 Cameo NGC1866 $2 1/2 PR65 Cameo NGC. An exquisitely struck Gem that has mirrored fields and bright yellow-gold color on the obverse. The obverse is gorgeously preserved, while the reverse has only a faint hairline or two in the fields. For pedigree purposes, there is a tiny planchet flaw (as made) near star 6, and a subtle curly lint mark (as produced) on Liberty's upper cheek. Just 30 pieces were struck, and NGC has graded only one example finer, that piece as PR66 Deep Cameo.
Ex: Byron Reed Collection (Christie's, 10/1996), lot 58, where it realized $15,950. (NGC ID# 287L, PCGS# 87892)
