Description

Sharp 1884 Quarter Eagle, PR64 Cameo
A Well-Mirrored Orange-Gold Specimen

1884 $2 1/2 PR64 Cameo PCGS. The decade starting with 1878 showed continuous increases in the mintages of proof quarter eagles with a single exception: 1884, in which the official mintage fell from 82 coins to just 73 pieces. About half of that production survives today, though few examples are as attractive as this PR64 Cameo coin. The contrast is bold, and slight variation is noted in the orange-gold color of the mirrors. This sharply impressed specimen shows small contact marks that influence the technical grade, as well as minor lint marks, which do not. Population: 2 in 64 Cameo, 2 finer (10/10).(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 2887, PCGS# 87910)
