Description

Finest Certified 1884 Quarter Eagle PR67 Cameo

1884 $2 1/2 PR67 Cameo NGC. The 1884 is a seldom offered proof Quarter Eagle issue, one of mere 73 specimens originally struck and at most half of that figure surviving as recognizable proofs. The glittering Superb Gem offered here is quite possibly the finest known example of the date. It is a visually stunning coin whose deeply reflective fields show evidence of heavy die polishing, with faint striations seen in the fields. Three microscopic depressions in the vicinity of Liberty's brow are Mint caused, as is a short lint mark between star 11 and the portrait. These are of no particular distraction and do not affect the technical merits of the piece, but may prove useful for future attribution. What is important is this specimen's status as the highest graded 1884 proof Quarter Eagle by either major certification service. Population: 1 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (11/04).(#87910) (Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 3XP4, PCGS# 87910)
