Description:
Important Deep Cameo Proof 1901 Quarter Eagle
1901 $2 1/2 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. It is possibly the case that there is nothing prettier in all of numismatics than a deep cameo proof gold coin, such as this quarter eagle. Every individual design element is fully struck, and the devices on both sides have extremely heavy mint frost. The fields are exceptionally well-mirrored, with rich yellow-gold color and pleasing orange highlights. This is the only example of the grade certified by PCGS. It is also the first deep cameo proof 1901 quarter eagle we have offered in a PCGS holder. Keep in mind that this was struck during a time when the Mint was not particularly fond of cameo contrast, and searched for ways to make proof coinage fully brilliant, including the devices. As rare as early 20th century proof gold coins are, those with cameo or deep cameo contrast are that much rarer. Population: 1 in 66, 3 finer (3/06).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 288R, PCGS# 97927)
