Description:
Originally Preserved and Rare 1878 8TF Morgan Dollar Proof
1878 8TF $1 PR66 PCGS. In the fifteen years prior to 1982, noted Silver Dollar specialist and author Wayne Miller had seen only 15 proof 1878 8TF Morgan Dollars. The exact number of coins produced is not known with certainty, but Bowers' estimate is 300-500 pieces. This pristine Gem is one of the finest examples certified by PCGS. The surfaces are drenched in medium dove-gray toning that yields to effulgent reddish-orange, lavender, and electric-blue undertones as the coin rotates into the light. The fields also shimmer with appreciable reflectivity at certain angles, and the devices display the exactness of strike that one should expect for a first-year proof Morgan Dollar. Population: 8 in 66, with only one (PR67) finer (10/01). (NGC ID# 2572, PCGS# 7311)
