1879 S$1 PR66 PCGS....
Outstanding, Original 1879 Morgan Dollar PR661879 $1 PR66 PCGS. A magnificent, conservatively graded specimen with much above-average sharpness for this second year issue and hairline-free surfaces. The fields glitter with mirrored reflectivity and both sides display beautiful turquoise, violet, and coppery-gold toning that yields to relatively small pockets of near-brilliance. From a mintage of 1,100 proofs, perhaps only five percent of the original production survives in such an outstanding state of preservation. Proof 1879 Dollars show an interesting bit of repunching on the reverse. This is most readily noticeable on the base of the E and R in AMERICA. The R appears to have been patched from a broken punch. This same reverse was used to strike some of the proof Dollars from 1880 as well. Population: 14 in 66, 8 finer (12/04).
