Description

1901 Morgan Dollar, PR66 Cameo
Only One Finer Coin at PCGS

1901 $1 PR66 Cameo PCGS. The 1901 Morgan dollar claims a business-strike mintage of nearly 7 million pieces, but few examples were saved by contemporary collectors, and the date was not well represented in the Treasury releases of the 1960s. It is likely that many of the coins were melted under the provisions of the Pittman Act in 1918. As a result, high-grade business-strike coins are rarely encountered, and date collectors often pursue a proof example to fill the space in their sets. This increased demand puts a lot of pressure on the small supply of proofs, from a mintage of just 813 pieces.
This impressive Premium Gem displays razor-sharp definition on all design elements, with deeply mirrored fields that contrast starkly with the frosty devices. A few wisps of champagne-gold toning add to the tremendous visual appeal. Population: 7 in 66 Cameo, 1 finer (12/12).(Registry values: N4719) (PCGS# 87336)
