1921 $1 Zerbe PR65 NGC....
Brightly Reflective Gem Zerbe Proof1921 $1 Zerbe PR65 NGC. Struck for Farran Zerbe, the exact status of these pieces varies from one dollar expert to another. Some consider them true proofs, others presentation strikes. As presentation pieces, the criteria is lower than for actual Philadelphia-struck proofs. These pieces were struck from polished dies, but lack the depth of mirroring in the fields that Chapman proofs and other Morgan dollar proofs possess. Nevertheless, these coins are widely considered proofs and collected as such. This particular coin has bright, reflective fields, and each side is covered with an even layer of reddish-golden patina. A couple of shallow marks are located on Liberty's chin and may serve in the future as pedigree identifiers for this important, high grade piece. Census: 10 in 65, 9 finer (12/08).
