Description:
Extremely Rare Satin Finish Proof 1922 Peace Dollar
1922 $1 Low Relief Satin PR63 NGC. This is an elusive issue that is seldom encountered in any grade. In fact, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time we have offered this very rare variety since 1993. There is little knowledge of these Low Relief proof Peace dollars. The surfaces are satiny and lustrous beneath pale champagne toning, and every design detail is boldly brought up. In fact, we cannot recall a more sharply struck example than this one. Normal Mint State examples of this date do not appear with satiny finish, but rather, with highly lustrous and frosty surfaces. The rims on each side are fully developed, far more so than on business strikes. The overall appearance of this rarity is entirely unlike any business strike 1922 Peace dollar we have seen. The present sale offers the connoisseur a highly unusual situation of two of these rarities being available in one sale. (NGC ID# 2828, PCGS# 7383)
