1912 $20 PR67 NGC. Only 74 proof double eagles were struck in 1912, and this date is roughly comparable in rarity to the 19...
The finish of this piece is similar to that found on the PR68 1911 described earlier, only that coin is a shade darker in hue. Magnification shows myriad tiny sparkling facets from the sandblast-like surfaces. This sparkle gives the coin a "life" and sheen that serves as a perfect counterbalance to the otherwise relatively deep coloration on the piece. The surfaces are essentially perfect with no singularly mentionable post-striking marks, abrasions, shiny spots, or other problems. Breathtaking eye appeal in this very rare gold proof. Census: 8 in 67, 1 finer (9/05).
