1852 10C PR67 NGC....
Finest-Graded Proof 1852 Dime, PR671852 10C PR67 NGC. This extraordinarily scarce 1852 proof dime formerly occupied positions in the Eliasberg and Kaufman collections, the finest certified of what we believe to be about eight surviving examples. We published a roster in the Kaufman Collection offering that identified six distinct examples, and it is a certainty that the certified populations, showing 13 submissions, contain numerous overlaps.
Low-intensity champagne, cobalt-blue, and pastel violet-purple toning covers both sides of this splendid dime. Mirrored fields establish noticeable contrast with the satiny design elements, all of which reveal bold detail. Even Liberty's foot and sandal are completely separate, and all of the venation is visible on the reverse leaves. As expected for the Superb Gem grade, the immaculately preserved surfaces are devoid of imperfections. Census: 1 in 67, 0 finer (9/12).
Ex: Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (Bowers and Merena, 5/1996), lot 1144; Phil Kaufman Collection / Baltimore ANA Signature (Heritage, 7/2008), lot 1822, which brought $31,500.
