Elusive 1847 Proof, NCS1847 $1 Proof, Improperly Cleaned, NCS. Ex: Eliasberg. An elusive early proof issue from the Seated dollar series, one of an estimated 20 to 30 pieces struck for the fledgling collector market. Even fewer, perhaps less than a dozen coins, exist today. The bright surfaces on this piece are moderately hairlined and display a thin layer of champagne patina. The design features are sharply defined, with excellent detail apparent in Liberty's hair and sandal. In its appearance in the third Eliasberg auction catalog, the present piece was graded PR62.
Ex: Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (4/97), lot 2214.
