Rare 1850 PR63 Seated Dollar1850 $1 PR63 PCGS. CAC. Open 5. This proof Seated dollar issue is rare, as are all proof Seated dollars dated before 1858. The 1850 is known with both Open 5 and Closed 5 variants. Duncan Lee, in the August 11, 2006, issue of the Coin Dealer Newsletter Monthly Supplement, writes of the 1850 Seated dollar proofs that "most examples show an Open 5 and recutting on the digit 0 in the date paired with the common reverse," showing a small defect inside the last A of AMERICA. Both of those features are evident on the present coin. The surfaces are deeply reflective with faint contrast, complemented by light golden patina. The strike is full save for the eagle's left wing top. Lee ranks the rarity of the 1850 proof at 12 out of 28 Seated dollar issues. Population: 2 in 63, 6 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 2522, PCGS# 6991)
