Description

Choice Proof 1854 Seated Dollar
A Rare Pre-1858 Proof Issue

1854 $1 PR64 NGC. As always, the triangular feature appears northeast of the flag of the 5 in the date; the shape is remarkably similar to that of the rightmost serif on the 4 in the date and is likely a remnant from an errant punch. While the mintage for this Seated dollar issue is unknown, proofs are rare today, especially when this attractive. The present Choice specimen has considerable contrast for a coin not designated as Cameo. Gold-orange tinges affect light gray surfaces, which show minor hairlines and a few color disturbances in the right-side fields, but the overall aesthetic reflects understated elegance. Census: 7 in 64, 2 finer (1/11).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 2528, PCGS# 6997)

Learn about consigning with us

What I most appreciated was how thorough you were when we initially met, how you were conservative in your estimates, not trying to get me to consign by giving false expectations, and then for delivering above and beyond on your commitment to me of a wonderful marketing campaign and a first rate catalog and photos, all of which resulted in a final total price realized that was nicely higher than what you had told me to expect.
