Elusive 1855 Dollar, PR62 PCGS1855 $1 PR62 PCGS. The business strike 1855 Seated dollar was produced to the extent of only 26,000 pieces, and, since most examples were exported and subsequently melted, coins of this date seldom appear on the market at any level of preservation. The proof 1855 Seated dollar is even rarer, and examples are offered less frequently then the already elusive proof 1854. This example displays bluish-gray patination, which is a shade lighter on the reverse. The design elements are sharply struck, and there are no mentionable abrasions. Some wispy hairlines are noted in the fields, but overall, this piece generates decent eye appeal for the grade. Population: 3 in 62, 13 finer (10/05).(#6998) (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 2529, PCGS# 6998)
