Seldom Seen 1857 Proof Seated Dollar1857 $1 PR62 PCGS. A pleasing example with moderate steel-gray patina, somewhat milky in the fields, and good underlying flashes of proof luster. A circular area of stain is noted to the left of the eagle's head on the reverse. Although the exact mintage from the two die pairings of this year is unknown, it is estimated that between 50 and 100 pieces were struck. With only 50 pieces graded by both services it seems likely that the actual figure in toward the low end of that range.
