Desirable 1858 Proof-Only Silver Dollar1858 $1 PR62 ANACS. The 1858 is the sole proof-only date in the Liberty Seated silver dollar series. The 2007 Red Book estimates that 300-plus coins were minted, and approximately one-half of that number are thought to be extant today. The design elements on this example are exquisitely brought up, and a thin layer of dove-gray patina covers both sides, interrupted in a few instances by faint streaks of slightly deeper gray-tan. Wispy hairlines are seen under high magnification on Liberty's cheek and neck and in the fields of both sides. This is one of the most respected and sought-after coins in American numismatics.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 252C, PCGS# 7001)
