Description

Select Proof 1858 Seated Dollar
Rich Multicolored Toning

1858 $1 PR63 PCGS. While the 1858 U.S. proof issues are the first to have defined mintages and a regulated system of mass sale and release, the official production was small (300 specimens for the Seated dollar) and survivors with any sort of quality are elusive. This richly toned Select proof specimen has glimmers of peripheral reflectivity where gold and peach shadings linger at the margins, while the green, blue, and violet patina over the interiors is near-opaque. Lightly hairlined under the toning with a touch of striking softness on the star between Liberty's head and the cap-on-pole, but an important coin nonetheless. Population: 30 in 63, 10 finer (9/12).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 252C, PCGS# 7001)
