1860 $1 PR65 NGC....
Enthralling 1860 Seated Dollar, PR651860 $1 PR65 NGC. Though this proof issue has a stated mintage of 1,330 pieces, that figure grossly overestimates the number of coins actually sold. As recounted by Q. David Bowers in his Silver Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United States, "Only 527 were eventually sold, and the rest were consigned to the melting pot." Among those specimens surviving today is this precious Gem, sharply struck, carefully preserved, and beautifully toned. Pale silver-gray centers yield to bands of rich blue-green, cerulean, amethyst, and reddish-orange. A powerfully appealing coin not to be missed. Census: 16 in 65, 9 finer (2/09).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 252E, PCGS# 7003)
