Location: Long Beach, CA
Description:
PR66 1860 Seated Dollar--One of the Finest Examples Known
1860 $1 PR66 NGC. A significant percentage of the official proof mintage of 1,330 pieces was melted, leaving only 527 coins distributed by year's end. Survivors are generally at best PR 63, making this one of the finest examples known. As with all the Kaufman coins we have seen so far, this piece is fabulously toned. The underlying mirrors are bright and flashy, further enlivening the multicolored iridescence that is splashed over both obverse and reverse. As one would expect, there are no obvious or distracting contact marks on either side of this superlative coin. Population: 4 in 66, 1 finer (11/02).
From the Philip Kaufman Collection. (NGC ID# 252E, PCGS# 7003)
