PR65+ 1868 Seated Dollar1868 $1 PR65+ PCGS. Proofs of this era typically demonstrate weak strikes -- a stark contrast to the proofs of the early 20th century. Coupled with poor handling by collectors, this has caused Gem proofs to be quite rare today. The high-end Gem in this lot yields an excellent strike and magnificent patination. Cobalt-blue dominates both sides, accented with yellow-gold and whispers of lavender. While not a Cameo, some mild field-motif contrast is evident when the coin is tilted beneath a light source, especially on the reverse. Magnification brings out no mentionable flaws. All in all, this specimen possesses exceptional eye appeal. Population: 1 in 65+, 4 finer (11/11).
