1870 $1 PR65 Cameo NGC....
1870 One Dollar, PR65 Cameo1870 $1 PR65 Cameo NGC. The 1870 proof dollar is scarcer than its mintage of 1,000 pieces might suggest. Most 1870 proof dollars were apparently distributed with minor and silver proof sets, and many unsold ones at the end of the year were melted.
Outstanding field-device contrast is seen on the present Gem Cameo offering. The only toning is a thin layer of golden-brown around the peripheries, and razor-sharp definition is apparent on the design elements. A series of insignificant marks in the field under the left (facing) wing are only mentioned because they might help identify the coin at some future date. Census: 22 in 65 Cameo, 6 finer (12/12).
