Description:

Very Rare PR62 1844 Half Dime
Valentine-1 Die Pair
1844 H10C PR62 PCGS. Valentine-1. Normal date high, slanting down to the right. This example does not correspond to any of the five Valentine-1 specimens listed in our most recent roster of proof 1844 half dimes (Phil Kaufman, FUN, 1/2008), but may be the same coin as either Stack's, 4/1978, or the F.C.C. Boyd/World's Greatest Collection example. In any event, this is an attractively toned specimen of a very rare issue. Gold-to-peach and blue-to-violet patina embraces each side, the former hue range prevailing on the obverse and the latter on the reverse. Several light to moderate hairlines in the fields contribute to the grade. Population: 2 in 62, 3 finer (7/12).(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 235C, PCGS# 4420)
