1847 H10C PR65 NGC....
Toned Gem Proof 1847 Seated Half Dime1847 H10C PR65 NGC. All proof half dimes from the 1840s are rare, regardless of date. In our sale of the Phil Kaufman Collection, we presented a roster of six distinct proof 1847 half dimes, along with three other possible specimens. Those six coins include the following:
1. PR66 NGC Kaufman Collection; 2. PR65 Cameo PCGS Superior (1/2004), lot 177; 3. PR65 NGC Richmond Sale; 4. Gem Proof Eliasberg Collection; 5. PR65 Pittman Collection; 6. Proof Smithsonian Institution. In addition, proof examples appeared in the Newcomb Sale; David Bullowa's sale of May 1952; and the Reed Hawn sale of August 1973.
This Gem proof exhibits lilac and blue toning over delicately mirrored fields with some iridescent highlights. Some lightness of strike is typical of proof examples, including the Eliasberg piece that showed some weakness on the reverse.
