Description

Superb Gem Proof 1859 Half Dime
Paquet Obverse Subtype

1859 H10C PR67 PCGS. CAC. True, the date is repunched south, but the most notable feature of the proof 1859 half dime is its hollow-centered stars. They are the handiwork of engraver Anthony C. Paquet, best known today for a rare and briefly coined design subtype of double eagles. Paquet also revamped the seated Liberty motif, which has a different face and hairstyle than Gobrecht's more familiar effort. The 1860 transition to a legend obverse limited Paquet's design to the 1859 half dime and rare 1859 and 1860 patterns. This is a pristine and fully struck specimen with rich peach-gold, lilac-red, ocean-blue and olive-green toning. Population: 4 in 67, 0 finer (2/13).(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 235P, PCGS# 4438)

If my clients were to auction something of significance, having Mike as the auctioneer would be a deal maker as far as I am concerned.
