Description:
Unsurpassable 1873 Proof Half Dime, Richly Toned Superb Gem Quality
1873 H10C PR67 NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. This beautifully toned specimen is earmarked for inclusion in a final-year type set that highlights originality as well as technical quality. Both sides are bathed in antique-copper and charcoal-gray shades with highlights of cobalt-blue color interspersed here and there. The overall appearance brightens considerably as the surfaces dip into the light. Fully struck, the devices are noteworthy for this often poorly produced type, and both sides reveal no outward signs of mishandling. With a loupe, one can see numerous die polish lines (as produced) in the fields that are nearly vertical in orientation. NGC and PCGS combined report only 11 coins at the PR67 level, and there is not a single example finer (10/02).
From the Philip Kaufman Collection. (NGC ID# 236A, PCGS# 4456)
