Description

1855 Arrows Quarter, PR65
The Only PCGS Certified Gem

1855 25C Arrows PR65 PCGS. The Pittman Collection had a Gem 1855 proof quarter that NGC certified as PR65, and we have handled that piece three times in past auctions. The present piece, which we handled once before, is the only PCGS certified Gem, with none finer (3/13). Perhaps a couple dozen proofs of this issue survive in various grades, but there are only three PR65 examples at both grading services, with only a single finer NGC specimen. The mirrored fields flash strongly through deep blue and magenta toning on both sides. While the stars are indistinct, all other details are sharply brought up on this Gem proof. Here is an important opportunity to acquire a Gem proof to represent the Arrows obverse type.
Ex: 1994 ANA (Heritage, 7/1994), lot 6520.
