Description

Rare, High Grade (PR64) 1856 Quarter

1856 25C PR64 NGC. The estimated mintage for proof 1856 quarters is based upon the number of proof sets distributed that year; that is, approximately 100 sets. Of that number, it is believed that only 25-30 coins are believed extant today. In fact, our records indicate that we have only handled two other proofs in the past ten years. This is a flashy, deeply mirrored proof that shows pinpoint striking details throughout. The centers are light in color, almost brilliant on the reverse, with golden-brown toning that soon turns to a rich Prussian blue at the margins. Population: 3 in 64, 2 finer (4/03). (NGC ID# 23WH, PCGS# 5552)
