Elusive 1857 Proof Seated Quarter1857 25C PR64 PCGS. An estimated quantity of fewer than 40 proofs were struck in this year, with a relatively small number probably surviving into the present day. The design elements of this near-Gem are exquisitely struck, displaying razor sharp detail throughout. Dappled lavender, violet, and gold toning graces the obverse, while the reverse shows sky-blue and reddish-gold coloration. The fields are bright and mirror-like, and nicely highlight the central devices. A few small, obscure surface marks are seen, none of which are serious. Population: 7 in 64, 2 finer (3/04).
