Description

Colorful Gem Proof 1859 Quarter

1859 25C PR65 NGC. This is a genuinely rare coin, likely far more than commonly realized as the second year of public Mint marketing of proof sets. The commonly accepted figure is 800 specimens coined, but this gives no accounting of how many were actually sold, as the rest were likely melted or put into circulation, a common Mint practice of the time. This well-struck Gem proof shows considerable field-device contrast under a loupe, along with patina in shades of aqua, amber, and jade on both sides with generous luster and high reflectivity. Census: 19 in 65, 18 finer (9/11).
From The Christmas Lake Collection.(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 23WL, PCGS# 5555)

Learn about consigning with us

What I most appreciated was how thorough you were when we initially met, how you were conservative in your estimates, not trying to get me to consign by giving false expectations, and then for delivering above and beyond on your commitment to me of a wonderful marketing campaign and a first rate catalog and photos, all of which resulted in a final total price realized that was nicely higher than what you had told me to expect.
