1860 25C PR65 NGC....
Attractive 1860 Gem Proof Quarter1860 25C PR65 NGC. Larry Briggs (1991) writes that 458 of the 1,000 1860 proof quarters minted were melted. Inspection of NGC and PCGS population data reveals that relatively few pieces in the Gem and higher levels of preservation are extant. Medium intensity cobalt-blue, purple, and beige-gold patina bathes both sides of the present Gem. The design elements are sharply struck, except for minor softness on the radials of the stars along the left border. Nicely preserved surfaces exhibit modest field-motif contrast. Census: 15 in 65, 7 finer (2/09).(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 23WM, PCGS# 5556)
