The Kaufman Specimen of the Proof 1863 Seated Liberty Quarter, PR67 NGC1863 25C PR67 NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. Continuing with the trend of the previous year, the Philadelphia Mint produced fewer Seated Quarters in 1863 than it did in 1862. The former year witnessed a delivery of just 191,600 business strikes and 460 proofs. Both formats are condition rarities with the present Superb Gem the single finest certified (NGC and PCGS) brilliant finish proof (11/02). The originality is at once both undeniable and breathtaking. Whereas the obverse is overlaid in light, pink-gray hues, the reverse is more extensively patinated with a rich cobalt-blue and antique-copper appearance. Needle sharp striking detail characterizes all devices, which are equally as blemish-free as the smooth, placid fields. Another spectacular proof Seated Quarter from the Kaufman Collection, and an important bidding opportunity for the advanced specialist.
From the Philip Kaufman Collection. (NGC ID# 23WR, PCGS# 5559)
