Description:
Attractively and Originally Toned 1866 Motto Seated Quarter, PR66
1866 25C PR66 NGC. The present sale notwithstanding, the 1866 Motto is genuinely rare at the finer levels of proof preservation. We have only handled one other PR66 specimen in recent memory, and that coin sold as lot 6627 in our January 1999 FUN Signature Sale. The present example is simply gorgeous from the standpoint of originality. Rich antique-copper shades overlay vivid reddish-lilac and golden-blue undertones. The proof impressions have resulted in full definition throughout, and the smooth surfaces have obviously been well cared for since the day of issue. Population: 6 in 66, with a mere two finer (11/02). (NGC ID# 23WX, PCGS# 5565)
