Description

Splendidly Original 1867 Seated Quarter in Gem Proof

1867 25C PR65 PCGS. Whereas the obverse shield ribbon is often indistinct on business strike Quarters of this date, it is razor sharp on this proof. The balance of the features are also fully struck, and the eye appeal is nothing short of breathtaking. The obverse is awash in orange-gold colors with blushes of lavender and cobalt-blue patina toward the lower border. Similar shadings are seen on the reverse, but the latter hues are more prevalent. Only 20,625 Seated Quarters were produced in the Philadelphia Mint in 1867, and the present example is certainly at the upper reaches of the PR65 level. Population: 15 in 65, there are only five finer (1/03).
From the Bay Area Collection. (NGC ID# 23WY, PCGS# 5566)
