Description:
Low Mintage 1869 Seated Quarter, PR67 NGC
1869 25C PR67 NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. Like the other P-mint Motto Seated Quarters from the 1860s, the 1869 was produced in limited numbers as a business strike (in this case, only 16,000 pieces). As a result, high quality date collectors are often forced to call upon exceptionally well preserved proofs to represent this issue. Here's a perfect candidate. Richly toned in antique-copper shades, the surfaces are uniformly reflective in finish with nary a troublesome blemish to report. A direct light source is needed to discern cobalt-blue undertones, but the needle sharp strike is readily evident after even the most cursory glance. The lightest suggestion of red patination is noted along the lower reverse denticles. PCGS has yet to certify a single example above the PR66 level, and NGC reports just two coins in PR67 and none finer (11/02).
From the Philip Kaufman Collection. (NGC ID# 23X2, PCGS# 5568)
