Popular Proof 61 1871 Quarter1871 25C PR61 NGC. Mostly brilliant surfaces with blushes of gold, pink, and blue at the obverse border. Although the reverse is Gem-quality, or close to it, the obverse shows a scattering of contact marks suggesting that this piece may have been kept face up in a dresser drawer or jewelry box during several years of its existence. Perhaps one of the greatest benefits provided by NGC and PCGS holders is that it makes the preservation task much easier for today's generation of numismatists, something we should all be grateful for. Only 960 proof quarters were minted in 1871.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 23X4, PCGS# 5570)
