Description:
The Single Finest Certified 1873 No Arrows Proof Seated Quarter, PR68 NGC, Ex: Kaufman
1873 25C No Arrows PR68 NGC. Ex: P. Kaufman. As they were delivered early in the year, all proof 1873 No Arrows Quarters display a Closed 3 in the date. Briggs (1991) opines that survivors are quite common despite the fact that many specimens were released into circulation. This statement may hold true in lower grades, but it has relevance to coins graded finer than PR64. Gem and Superb Gem quality 1873 No Arrows proofs are of the utmost rarity and desirability in today's market. To the best of our knowledge, no auction firm has offered a PR68 representative until now. This does not surprise us, as this coin is the single finest example at NGC and PCGS (11/02). The razor sharp devices and smooth, pristine fields are drenched in original toning. The obverse is mostly silver-gray in appearance, while the reverse is awash in rich antique-copper patina with lilac, cobalt-blue, and golden-champagne undertones moving from the lower left to the upper right. A coin that the finest collection should not do without.
From the Philip Kaufman Collection. (NGC ID# 23X6, PCGS# 5572)
