Description

One of the Finest Known 1874 Arrows Seated Quarter, PR67 PCGS

1874 25C Arrows PR67 PCGS. Ex: Benson Collection. By the terms of the Mint Act of February 12, 1873, the quarter increased in weight from 6.22 to 6.25 grams. To mark this change, Arrows were placed at the date for most of 1873 and all of 1874. An important subtype, high quality survivors from these two years are always in strong demand among numismatists. The present Superb Gem proof is possessed of unquestionable originality and gorgeous eye appeal that adds immeasurably to its importance as an advanced type coin. The moderately frosted devices rise powerfully above the deep, watery fields. Free of hairlines and other impairments, the surfaces display pleasing electric-blue and crimson peripheral accents. Fully defined, as usual, only a strong bid will ensure ownership of this exquisite coin. Population: 2 in 67, 0 finer (3/04).
Ex: Benson Collection, Part II (Ira & Larry Goldberg (2/02), lot 733, which realized $27,600.
From the JFS Collection.(#5575) (Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 23XS, PCGS# 5575)
