1866 5C Rays PR67 Cameo NGC....
PR67 Cameo 1866 Shield Nickel1866 5C Rays PR67 Cameo NGC. The introduction of the Shield nickel in 1866, the nation's first copper-nickel five cent coin, was the beginning of the end for the half dime. Proofs were also struck for the first year of issue, with an estimated mintage of 600+, and this is the only readily collectible date of the With Rays reverse design, as the 1867 With Rays is a great rarity as a proof.
For collectors who seek coins at the highest level, this Superb Gem is a marvelous choice. Frosted devices are decisively detailed, and the boldly mirrored fields supply wonderful contrast with little color to the patina. This is one of just two PR67 Cameo examples graded by NGC with no numerically finer Cameo coins (2/11).(Registry values: N7079) (PCGS# 83817)
