Rare Gem Proof 1865 Three Cent Nickel1865 3CN PR66 PCGS. Doubled Date. Breen 2412, the first punching far to the left of the final position. According to Breen, "over 90 percent of proofs of this date are from these dies." The first year 1865 is the most difficult of all Three Cent Nickels as a proof, and is infrequently located as Gem. This magnificent specimen advances to even loftier levels, being irregularly framed in multicolored, rainbow patina. We note two unobtrusive specks of carbon on the obverse, one above Liberty's head and another just behind her hair bun. Population: 17 in 66, none finer (6/05).(#3761) (Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 275K, PCGS# 3761)
