1856 Three Cent Silver, PR651856 3CS PR65 NGC. The Type Two three cent silver design was short-lived (1854-1858) and coined mostly in a time when proofs were available only through specific connections, as regular sales did not begin until the final year in the range of five. This Gem specimen from the middle date is a rare high-grade survivor of considerable importance. Flickers of golden-rose patina near the centers give way to rich blue patina, while a few whispers of sea-green are visible at the margins on each side. Housed in a prior-generation NGC holder with external hologram. Census: 5 in 65, 2 finer (11/12).
From The Walter Freeman Collection of Three Cent Silvers.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 27C3, PCGS# 3703)
