Description:
1864 Three Dollars PR64 Ultra Cameo
1864 $3 PR64 Ultra Cameo NGC. Just 50 proofs were struck of this desirable Civil War date, along with a miserly production of 2,630 business strikes. Proofs are distinguished with little difficulty from their prooflike commercial counterparts. The proofs have a perfect date, while the 18 is repunched on the business strikes. The date is placed slightly further left on the proofs. The present pinpoint-sharp example features luminous devices that exhibit obvious contrast with the prominently mirrored fields. A number of tiny surface marks are noted on the reverse field near the wreath, beneath the bow, above the 3, and along the outer right border. A small mint-made planchet flaw near the ER in AMERICA will identify any future appearances of this significant piece. A long, thin lint mark near F in OF will serve as a secondary identifier.
