Condition Census 1882 Three Dollar, PR 66 PCGS1882 $3 PR 66 PCGS. Of the 76 proof three dollar gold pieces delivered in 1882, no more than 35 coins are believed extant. This issue is similar in rarity to the proof 1881, especially in the higher levels of preservation. Both major grading services have seen only two examples of the 1882 delivery in PR 66, and there are none finer (11/00). Crisply defined throughout, both sides of this coin display original orange-gold color. Deeper green-gold accents are also noted in the fields as the coin rotates beneath a light. The obverse is uniformly brilliant, but the finish on the reverse has resulted in a modest cameo contrast. A virtually flawless Gem, this coin adequately complements the rare 1875 and 1876 proof three dollar gold pieces that we are also offering in this sale.
