Description:
1883 Three Dollar, PR65 Ultra Cameo
Only Two Finer NGC Pieces
1883 $3 PR65 Ultra Cameo NGC. The series of three dollar gold pieces, struck from 1854 to 1889, had the shortest life of any regular issue gold denomination, and the coins are extremely popular in all grades, including proofs. Just 89 proofs were minted in 1883, along with a low business strike mintage of only 900 coins. The total production of less than 1,000 1883 three dollar gold pieces was one of the lowest figures in the entire series, meaning collector demand is extremely high.
Certification data shows that only about 20% of all surviving 1883 proof threes exhibit the highest level of contrast. This lovely Gem Ultra Cameo proof, one of just 22 Deep or Ultra Cameo pieces certified at NGC and PCGS in all grades, has incredible field-to-device contrast with fully defined devices and impressive eye appeal. Census: 4 in 65 Ultra Cameo, 2 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 28AS, PCGS# 98047)
