Description:
Gem Proof 1878 Trade Dollar
Proof-Only Issue, Rare in High Grade
1878 T$1 PR65 PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint produced 900 proof Trade dollars in 1878, but no business-strikes were minted. The issue is usually seen in grades below PR64 and examples in Gem condition are rare. Both sides of this lovely Gem display attractive toning. The obverse includes teal, fuchsia, russet, and orange colors, with Liberty largely draped in a pale gold hue that accentuates the well-executed strike. Although little reflectivity remains visible on that side, the center of the reverse remains flashy. The eagle is largely draped in rich golden-orange toning with shades of pink, blue-green, and russet appearing at the outer edges. Population: 15 in 65, 10 finer (3/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 27YP, PCGS# 7058)
