1883 T$1 PR66 Cameo NGC....
1883 Trade Dollar, PR66 Cameo1883 T$1 PR66 Cameo NGC. Aside from the extremely rare and "unofficial" 1884 and 1885 proofs, the 1883 Mintage of 979 proofs was the final year for Trade dollar public sales and, for all practical purposes, marked the end of the series. Many surviving examples of the 1883 date are in lower grades or impaired. The date is scarce in higher grades.
This Premium Gem displays brilliant, clean fields and an above-average strike. A touch of softness exists on Liberty's curls beneath the beaded coronet, but the head is otherwise full with a clean, rounded cheek. The stars are all sharply detailed and the eagle is bold. A subtle hint of golden toning enhances the mirrored fields and a generous amount of mint frost resides on the devices, resulting in excellent cameo contrast. The few delicate hairlines on the coin are inconspicuous and minor. Just 15 pieces are graded higher than this PR66 Cameo example by NGC and PCGS combined (12/13).
